Episode Ninety-one: Determined to
Uncover her Secret, and Having Grown
Fond of Her, Jack Continues to
Visit Isabella. Marina Is Murdered.

[Air date mid-November 1989]

SCENE ONE: ISABELLA IS THINKING BACK OVER HER CHILDHOOD WHEN SHE HEARS JACK AT THE DOOR.

JACK: Ah....hi!

ISABELLA: You came back.

JACK: Well I said I would. (Beat) Ah....are you alright?

ISABELLA: Huh, uh.

JACK: I'm not interrupting anything am I?

ISABELLA: Nothing I can't get back to.

JACK: Alright.

ISABELLA: Why are you here?

JACK: Ah....er nothing. Actually I thought you might be bored and I brought you this.

JACK HANDS ISABELLA AN AUDIO TAPE.

JACK: It's Beethoven, one of his early ones. Kind of upbeat.

ISABELLA: Thank you.

JACK: So....er....I thought maybe you'd like to talk.

ISABELLA: About what?

JACK: I don't know. About....about Marina? You want to talk to me about Marina?

ISABELLA: Maybe.

JACK: You can talk to me. I won't bite. Go on, go ahead, tell me about Marina.

ISABELLA: There's something I need to know first.

JACK: Oh, oh! Okay go ahead, shoot.

ISABELLA: How well do you know my sister?

JACK: Well I obviously don't know her as well as you do.

ISABELLA: Well that doesn't tell me much.

JACK: It wasn't supposed to. Now who's asking the questions of whom?

ISABELLA: When was the last time you saw Marina?

JACK: Recently. How about you?

ISABELLA: Just as recently.

JACK: Hmmm. This is going nowhere fast.

ISABELLA: Well I'm not the one who wants information.

JACK: No, no, no. Correct information as opposed to misinformation. There's a difference. According to my information the two of you are not very close.

ISABELLA: Our relationship is much too complicated for you to understand.

JACK: Maybe. You know what I think though. I think that you're too complicated to understand.

ISABELLA: Isn't a person in a place like this easy to figure out?

JACK: Usually I'd say yes. But in your case, no. You know why?

ISABELLA: No, why?

JACK: Because there's nothing wrong with you. You're perfectly sane.

ISABELLA: Why do you think I don't belong in here? My doctor would be pleased to hear that.

JACK: What about you? Aren't you pleased to hear that?

ISABELLA: If I'm so sane, then what am I doing in here?

JACK: I don't know. That's what I'm trying to figure out for myself. You know a lot of people thought Beethoven was crazy in his day. But you know what I think? I think he wanted people to think that so they'd leave him alone so he could do his thing. (Beat) Enjoy the tape.

JACK LEAVES.

SCENE TWO: ONCE AGAIN HE HEARS MARINA COMING TO SEE ISABELLA SO HE HIDES OUTSIDE AND LISTENS TO THEIR CONVERSATION. MARINA TELLS ISABELLA IT IS GETTING MORE AND MORE DANGEROUS. ISABELLA ASKS HER WHY SHE HAS TO STAY AT BAYVIEW AND MARINA SAYS SHE IS SAFER THERE AND THAT WHAT SHE IS AFTER IS WORTH THE DANGER. JACK IS COMPLETELY PUZZLED.

SCENE THREE: LATER MARINA GOES BACK TO HER HOTEL ROOM AND AS SHE ENTERS THE ROOM, SHE IS ASSAULTED BY A THUG. SHE IS STRUGGLING WITH HIM WHEN JACK COMES IN.

JACK: Hey, get away off her. What!

JACK STRUGGLES WITH THE THUG AND HE PUNCHES JACK AND KNOCKS HIM TO THE FLOOR. AS HE RUNS OUT THE DOOR, MARINA SCREAMS AT JACK TO GO AFTER HIM BUT JACK IS TOO HURT.

MARINA: Are you alright?

JACK: No, are you?

MARINA: You saved my life. Why? You saved my life. You risked your life for me Jack. Why?

JACK: Well it seemed like the thing to do. Oh I know. Never let a good story die! How about that?

MARINA: Is that the reason why you followed me here?

JACK: Ha. Aren't you glad that I did?

MARINA: It isn't a story you're after Jack.

JACK: You're right. I'm after your sworn abstinence from Steve and Kayla. How about that?

MARINA: What's wrong with you? Can't you see I'm the victim here.

JACK: Oh please, please.

MARINA: You saw what just happened. Oh please, Jack someone is trying to kill me.

JACK: Kill you? They're trying to kill me. I mean you just keep sticking your hand in the fire, don't you?

MARINA: Right, fine. Steve will help me.

JACK: Steve will not help you!

MARINA: Yes he will! I know he cares about me.

JACK: No he won't. He doesn't care about you. As far as you're concerned it's a done deal.

MARINA: No, never.

JACK: No, no, no. Now listen to me. One more warning. Stay away from Steve and Kayla, alright.

MARINA: Is that a threat, Jack?

JACK: Let me give you one last piece of advice from your pal, and maybe your only pal.

HE PLACES HIS HANDS AROUND HER THROAT.
Ep091A

JACK:
It would take this much effort to snap that little chicken neck. Maybe next time I won't be around to help you.

SHE PUSHES HIM OUT THE DOOR AND SLAMS IT SHUT. JACK WIPES THE BLOOD FROM HIS MOUTH.

SCENE FOUR: A SHORT TIME LATER, KAYLA IS ALL DRESSED UP READY TO GO OUT. SHE IS AT HER PARENT'S PLACE AND IS OBVIOUSLY WAITING FOR SOMEBODY. THERE IS A LOUD KNOCK AT THE DOOR.

KAYLA: Jack.

JACK: Ah..,.hi. The mail guy dropped this on the....what am I saying. I just wanted to check in on you and see how you were doing.

KAYLA: I'm alright.

JACK: Yeah. Nice outfit. Pretty.

KAYLA: Oh, I'm having dinner with Steve tonight.

JACK: Great.

KAYLA: Yeah.

JACK: Ah, let me take this in for you. It's cold out there. (Beat) So I hope he's taking you to a four-star restaurant. I mean you certainly look dressed for it.

KAYLA: Oh well, we're not going anywhere special. It's not a special night.

JACK: Oh, you're dressed like it's going to be special.

KAYLA: Listen as long as Marina is around, Steve and I are going to stay apart.

JACK: Oh I don't think you should worry about Marina. Steve is really trying to push her away.

KAYLA: Well, maybe not pushing hard enough.

JACK: I think your really over estimating Marina. She's a lot more limited than you think.

KAYLA: You know a lot about her.

JACK: Yeah I know some things, yeah.

KAYLA: Well you did all that research, right?

JACK: Are you about to start asking me questions about Marina?

KAYLA: Well why don't you tell me what you know, huh?

JACK: Look, I've told you everything I know.

KAYLA: Well maybe you're leaving out just something important.

JACK: There's nothing else important.

KAYLA: I don't trust her.

JACK: Don't worry about trusting her. You've got to trust Steve. He's doing everything he can to make this right.

KAYLA: You think so?

JACK: Yeah, don't you?

KAYLA: No. I don't know. You know he begged me to have dinner with him tonight. Now he's late.

JACK: Well maybe he ran into a traffic jam or something.

KAYLA: I'm sure he's just late.

SCENE FIVE: MEANWHILE MARINA HAS GONE TO SEE STEVE BUT HE TELLS HER THAT HE KNOWS SHE HAD THE KEY ALL ALONG BECAUSE VICTOR TOLD HIM. SHE SWEARS SHE DOESN'T HAVE IT. STEVE TELLS MARINA TO LEAVE BUT SHE REFUSES. HE PUSHES HER ASIDE AND IS ABOUT TO GET IN HIS CAR WHEN IT BLOWS UP. HE IS NOT INJURED BUT KAYLA FINDS OUT THAT MARINA WAS WITH HIM SO SHE STILL REFUSES TO GO BACK THERE.

[Air date Thanksgiving Day 1989]

SCENE ONE: JACK IS IN HIS OFFICE WHEN JO ARRIVES TO SEE HIM.

JACK: Come in.

JO: I thought I'd find you here. Don't you even take off for holidays?

JACK: Does the news take a holiday? No. Do I take a holiday? No. I've got to get the newspaper out.

JO: Well, when you're finished, why don't you come by Dr. Curtis's for Thanksgiving? I've invited Adrienne and Steve.

JACK: For a good old Johnson Thanksgiving?

JO: Well since we haven't had one yet, I thought this would be a good time to start.

JACK: Not for me, not today.

HE GLARES AT JO ALMOST BAITING HER TO COMMENT.

JO: Okay. Fine. I want to tell you something Jack. You can get another job but you've only got one family.

JACK: Don't you think I know that. Why do you think....

HE STOPS, UNABLE TO TELL HER HOW HARD HE IS TRIED TO HELP HIS FAMILY.

JO: We'll set an extra place for you just in case you get off early. Happy Thanksgiving....Son.

SCENE TWO: JENNIFER ARRIVES AT HER GRANDPARENTS. EMILIO DROPS BY AND TELLS HER HE WILL BE BACK LATER FOR TURKEY AND HOW GLAD HE IS THAT SHE ASKED HIM.

SCENE THREE: LATER THE HORTONS ARE ALL GATHERING IN THE LIVING ROOM WHEN EMILIO ARRIVES. HE FEELS AWKWARD WITH THE HORTONS.

SCENE FOUR: MEANWHILE JACK GOES TO VISIT ISABELLA.

JACK: Oh what the heck!

JACK HANDS SOME MORE CASH TO THE NURSE ATTENDANT.

MALE NURSE: What, no turkey, no stuffing?

JACK: Yeah.

THE NURSE GOES INSIDE AND ISABELLA COMES OUT.

ISABELLA: Oh it's you.

JACK: I guess the romance has gone out of this relationship. Or were you expecting Marina?

ISABELLA: Well it is a holiday.

JACK: That's why I'm here to bring a little holiday cheer.

HE HANDS HER A SMALL BUNCH OF FLOWERS.

ISABELLA: Thank you but you didn't have to.

JACK: Well I figured the others were dead by now. And I know it must be kind of hard to be alone on Thanksgiving.

ISABELLA: I won't be for long.

JACK: What do you mean?

ISABELLA: I'm getting out.

JACK: Really?

ISABELLA: Marina will be by anytime now.

JACK: So I guess I can't visit you anymore?

ISABELLA: I don't know.

JACK: What, you don't want to see me?

ISABELLA: I want to get out.

JACK: Well I don't blame you for that. This place is....I tell you what. Let's take a walk around the grounds until Marina gets here.

ISABELLA: I don't think we should leave.

JACK: Don't worry about it. I'll make sure you don't miss Marina, believe me. Okay? This way.

ISABELLA TAKES JACK'S ARM AND THEY BEGIN TO WALK AROUND THE GARDEN.

ISABELLA: Our family was always together for holidays.

JACK: Sounds like your family was pretty close at one time.

ISABELLA: At one time. I wonder where Marina is.

JACK: Well maybe....maybe you just got the time wrong. Huh?

ISABELLA: No it was today.

JACK: Guess you've been stood up before, huh? (Beat) Sorry.

ISABELLA: You don't have to feel sorry for me. I can take care of myself.

JACK: Whoa, whoa. Feel sorry for me. I can't figure out a way to help you.

ISABELLA: Do you really want to help me?

JACK: Sure, why not?

ISABELLA: I need money.

JACK: You need money? What for?

ISABELLA: To make things more comfortable for me.

SHE HANDS JACK THE FLOWERS.

JACK: Well...wait a minute.

ISABELLA REMOVES A RING FROM HER FINGER.

ISABELLA: I want you to pawn this for me. You should be able to get quite a bit for it.

JACK: Wait a minute. I....er....look I think I can loan you the money.

ISABELLA: No. I want you to pawn the ring.

JACK: Look, Isabella.....alright, I'll do whatever I can do.

MALE NURSE: Sorry I've got to get her back in.

JACK: Alright. Thanks. Here for you. (He hands her back the flowers.)

ISABELLA: (Whispering) Please do it.

ISABELLA GOES INSIDE AND JACK IS LEFT OUTSIDE STILL PUZZLED BY HER.

SCENE FIVE: A SHORT TIME LATER BACK AT THE HORTONS, MIKE ANNOUNCES THE TURKEY IS READY. THE DOORBELL RINGS AND JENNIFER RUNS TO ANSWER IT. IT IS JACK.

JENNIFER: Hello.

JACK: Hi.

JENNIFER: Jack!

JACK: Happy Thanksgiving!

HE HANDS HER A LOVELY BUNCH OF MIXED FLOWERS.
Ep091B

JENNIFER: What are these for?

JACK: Well, what do you think? They're for....

EMILIO APPEARS FROM BEHIND THE DOOR. SEEING EMILIO JACK SEEMS AFFECTED. IT APPEARS THAT HE WAS ABOUT TO SAY SOMETHING MORE BUT CHANGES HIS MIND.

EMILIO: Hey, if it ain't the turkey himself.

JENNIFER: Jack, why don't you come in? It's cold out there.

JACK: (It is obvious that he is not bringing flowers to all his staff just Jennifer, but he does not want Jennifer to know.) No, no, no, no. I've got a lot of these to deliver to the other employees. Got a whole car full. I just wanted to (Stopping before he says that they are for her.)....I just wanted to give this to your family.

JENNIFER: Thanks.

THEY LOOK IN EACH OTHER'S EYES.

JACK: Sure. It's no big deal really.

EMILIO: They're calling us. Come on.

EMILIO WALKS AWAY.

JACK: Well I guess your granpa's winding up there. It's my cue to leave.

JENNIFER: Oh well. Happy Thanksgiving Jack.

JACK: (Jack is somewhat hurt and lonely.) Happy Thanksgiving to you.

JENNIFER SHUTS THE DOOR AND JACK FEELS LIKE HE IS BEEN SHUT OUT FROM THE WORLD.

JENNIFER GOES BACK INTO THE LIVING ROOM AND JACK WATCHES THROUGH THE WINDOW AS EMILIO KISSES HER.

SCENE SIX: JACK GOES BACK TO HIS OFFICE AND AS HE OPENS THE DOOR HE FINDS JO THERE AND HIS WHOLE DESK SET UP FOR THANKSGIVING DINNER. HE IS HAPPY BUT TRIES NOT TO SMILE.

Ep091C

DURING THIS TIME THERE IS A VOICE OVER OF TOM HORTON TALKING ABOUT FAMILY AND THOSE WHO ARE ALONE AND ARE NOT ABLE TO SHARE THE HOLIDAY WITH OTHERS, HE TALKS ABOUT BEING THANKFUL. IT IS A MONTAGE OF THE HORTONS, JACK, AND OTHERS.

[Air date late November 1989]

SCENE ONE: THE DAY AFTER THANKSGIVING, JACK GOES TO SEE KAYLA AT HER PARENTS' PLACE.

KAYLA: Jack.

HE IS HOLDING HER MAIL. HE HANDS IT TO HER AND FEELS AWKWARD.

JACK: Have you got a minute?

KAYLA: Sure, what's up?

JACK: Look I know how much you hate me busting in here like this.

KAYLA: Well what is it?

JACK: Oh, you're trying to decide on a name for the baby, huh?

SHE IS HOLDING A BABY NAME BOOK.

KAYLA: Well, it's not something that I really want to decide by myself. So, what is it you're here for?

JACK: Kayla....Kayla (Beat) It's Steve and Marina.

KAYLA: Well, what about Steve and Marina?

JACK: He's just....Marina's going to be out of his life.

KAYLA: What do you mean?

JACK: Just that. Marina's going to be out of Steve's life and out of your life too and everything....well the two of you are going to be back together.

KAYLA: Well that sounds really great but how do you know that?

JACK: I....look I just know that....I just know....she's going to....everything's going to be back to normal.

KAYLA: Normal? I don't even know what normal is anymore. Steve's been beaten up, his car's been bombed. You know I don't even know if it's safe for me to go back.

JACK: Well it makes sense. You've got to protect the baby. It's just that everything's going to be taken care of, alright. It'll be very soon.

KAYLA: Jack, what are you trying to tell me?

JACK: I'm....I'm trying to help.

KAYLA: Maybe you are but....

JACK: No maybe, I am....helping! Look I want....I want everything to work out for you and for Steven.

KAYLA: Well that's great except for what's best for me right now is not to be with Steve. I can't be with Steve until I have proof that he's really through with Marina. I just can't go back.

JACK: That's all that's keeping you apart?

KAYLA: Look Jack, I think that you should go.

JACK: Alright. I'm gone. I'm outta here. I'm gone.

KAYLA SHUTS THE DOOR AND JACK THINKS OVER HIS THREAT TO MARINA TO "SNAP HER LITTLE CHICKEN NECK."

SCENE TWO: MEANWHILE MARINA COMES TO SEE ISABELLA. THE ARGUE ABOUT MARINA NOT COMING ON THANKSGIVING. MARINA GIVES ISABELLA A BOX OF CHOCOLATES. AS SHE IS LEAVING, JACK ARRIVES AND THEY TALK OUTSIDE THE MAIN DOOR.

JACK: Hello Marina.

MARINA: What are you doing here?

JACK: Oh visiting. How about you?

MARINA: Same.

JACK: Family?

MARINA: Butt out Jack.

JACK: You know when I first saw you I thought maybe you were coming here for a check-up. See if you were really crazy enough to stay in this town.

MARINA: I'm afraid not.

JACK: Then I thought again, maybe you'd want to give your face a rest you know so you'd want to have a nice long vacation at Bayview Sanitarium. You know you get past the rubber rooms and the rubber forks and it's probably the safest place to stay.

MARINA: That's not very funny.

JACK: I know it's not funny. It's also not funny what's happened to Steve and Kayla since you came to this town.

MARINA: I've never meant them any harm.

JACK: Oh I'd hate to see what happens if you did intend some harm. I mean you've practically ruined their lives so far. I think it's just about time you went in there and locked yourself up for your own protection.

MARINA: Excuse me.

JACK: MARINA, LOOK OUT. PSHOOCHRRRRRGH! Just checking your reflexes! Have a nice day!

SCENE THREE: AFTER MARINA LEAVES JACK GOES IN TO SEE ISABELLA. SHE IS EATING THE CHOCOLATES AND LAUGHING.

JACK: Ah....hi.

ISABELLA: Hi.

JACK: Are you alright?

ISABELLA: Why do you ask?

JACK LOOKS AT THE CHOCOLATES.

JACK: Ah, well you're looking a little down.

ISABELLA: It's....it's been a difficult day.

JACK: Yeah. I take it your sister didn't come by to get you out.

ISABELLA: No.

JACK: Well, maybe I have something here that will cheer you up.

ISABELLA: My money?

JACK: You said you needed it right away.

JACK HANDS HER AN ENVELOPE.

ISABELLA: I do. I had no idea my ring was worth this much money.

SHE TAKES THE MONEY OUT OF THE ENVELOPE AND SEES THE RING IN THE BOTTOM.

ISABELLA: What's this doing in here?

JACK: Well you know, I don't trust pawn shops and I'm sorry but I know it means a lot to you.

ISABELLA: It does.

JACK: So look why don't you just keep it and the money will be a loan. How about that?

JACK SLIPS THE RING BACK ON HER FINGER.

ISABELLA: My father gave me this ring.

JACK: See I knew it was special.

ISABELLA: It is. It belonged to his mother. He said that I was the only one who could wear it.

JACK: So the two of you were the closest, right?

ISABELLA: We were very close. He always treated me special like that. Even when Marina wanted most of his attention....

JACK AND ISABELLA (TOGETHER): ....which was most of the time.

ISABELLA: He never neglected me.

JACK: Which made you love him even more.

ISABELLA: I loved him more than anybody. Now that he's gone this ring is all I have to remember him by. Thanks for letting me keep it.

JACK: That's what friends are for. (Beat) I said, that's what friends are for. That's your cue. I was assuming we were friends.

ISABELLA: I could use a friend.

JACK: Good. Well my friend, what else can I do for you?

ISABELLA: You've done enough already. I don't know how to thank you.

JACK: Why don't you thank me by getting some rest. I think you still look a little down. I should go.

ISABELLA: You probably should.

JACK: Yep. You sure you're going to be okay?

ISABELLA: I'll be fine.

JACK: Good.

JACK LEAVES AND SHUTS THE DOOR, SATISFIED WITH THE VISIT.

JACK: Okay.

SCENE ONE: THE NEXT DAY, MARINA IS FOUND MURDERED IN HER HOTEL ROOM. IT APPEARS SHE HAS BEEN HIT BY A LAMP. THERE ARE A NUMBER OF SUSPECTS INCLUDING JACK, STEVE, AND KAYLA.

[Air date early December 1989]

SCENE ONE: JACK IS WORKING ON AN ARTICLE AT HIS DESK. HE IS ON THE PHONE.

JACK: Look, I'll get back to you.

HE HANGS UP AND JENNIFER COMES IN.

JENNIFER: Jack, are you done with the article?

JACK: I'll let you know when I'm done.

JENNIFER: Vern's waiting for it.

JACK: Vern can wait.

JENNIFER: He's waiting to go to press with it Jack.
Ep091D

JACK:
READ MY LIPS! (Mouthing the words) "It's not ready!"

JENNIFER: (Mouthing the words) "It's not ready." Do you need some help with it?

JACK: No.

JENNIFER: Jack, are you having trouble spelling the big words? Cause I'm really good at....

JACK: Jennifer, leave it alone!

SHE SNATCHES THE ARTICLE OUT OF HIS HANDS.

JACK: HEY!

JENNIFER: It's about Marina Toscano. It's about her death.

JACK: Brilliant observation.

JENNIFER: I'm sorry Jack, I understand how you feel.

JACK: No, no, I don't want your understanding. I want my art....article back.

SHE REFUSES TO LET HIM SNATCH IT BACK.

JENNIFER: This has something to do with your family, doesn't it Jack?

JACK: Look I'm going to give you one more chance.

JENNIFER: You're holding up this article on purpose, aren't you? Aren't you?

JACK: I'm not holding anything up.

JENNIFER: Then why is it taking so long?

JACK: Because it's a very complicated situation.

JENNIFER: So you're going to miss a deadline. Jack?

JACK: No. I'm working out all the facts, alright.

JENNIFER: This has nothing to do with facts. It has to do with you wanting help and being too stubborn to ask for it.

JACK: No, no. The facts are this is my newspaper, this is my office and until it hits the newstand, this is my article. Get the hint?

JENNIFER: Jack, I know that things in your family have been bothering you.

JACK: No, no. Look, the operative word here is, mine. Now leave me alone.

JENNIFER: I just want to help you and I know what's bothering you. Marina is a part of it.

JACK: Marina is not a part of it. Marina is dead as a door nail. End of story.

JENNIFER: End of story?

JACK: End of story. Give this to Vern.

JENNIFER: Where are you going Jack?

JACK: I've got a little assignment to work on.

JENNIFER: Okay, I'm coming with you.

JACK: Don't you have work you need to do?

JENNIFER: I'd rather be helping you.

JACK: Stay put.

HE RUBS HIS FINGER ON HER NOSE AND WALKS OUT. SHE WIGGLES HER NOSE, GRINS AND THEN THE PHONE RINGS.

JENNIFER: Hello. Jack Deveraux' office.

ISABELLA: Yes, is he there?

JENNIFER: No he isn't. He just left.

ISABELLA: Do you know when he'll be back?

JENNIFER: No he didn't say but this is his secretary. If you want to tell him anything, I can give him the message. (Beat) Hello?

ISABELLA HANGS UP WITHOUT SPEAKING AGAIN.

JENNIFER: Alright Jack. If you're not going to tell me what's going on, I'm just going to have to find out for myself.

SCENE TWO: JACK ARRIVES BACK AT BAYVIEW TO SEE ISABELLA. HE SEES THE ATTENDANT THAT HE HAS BEEN BRIBING.

JACK: Hey, there you are. How are you doing?

MALE NURSE: This is getting dangerous man.

JACK: Oh right. And danger costs.

MALE NURSE: Yeah, it can cost me my job.

JACK: Okay. Well here's a little something for your pension plan.

THE GUYS LAUGHS AT THE NOTE JACK GIVES HIM.

JACK: Oh, oh, yeah, dangerous for you. Costly for me.

JACK HANDS HIM A SECOND NOTE BUT THE GUY STILL LEAVES HIS HAND OUT.

JACK: Oh, you too much, you know that.

MALE NURSE: Yeah, I know.

JACK: Show me your Swiss chalet sometime.

THE GUY UNLOCKS THE DOOR.

JACK: Now, if anybody sees me here or knows I was here, like the police, I'm going to come looking for you.

MALE NURSE: Well you'll know where to find me.

JACK FOLLOWS THE GUY INSIDE AFTER CHECKING THAT NOBODY IS AROUND.

AS SOON AS HE SHUTS THE DOOR, JENNIFER COMES RUNNING UP AND PEERS INSIDE. SHE GOES OVER AND RUBS THE ICE OFF THE SIGN AND SEES THAT IT IS BAYVIEW TOWERS SANITARIUM.

JENNIFER: What? What's Jack doing here? Oh. Okay get a hold of yourself Jennifer. It's going to be really long cold wait.

SHE BEGINS DOING JUMPING JACKS TO KEEP WARM.

SCENE THREE: INSIDE JACK COMES INTO ISABELLA'S ROOM. SHE IS LISTENING TO THE BEETHOVEN TAPE HE LEFT FOR HER.

JACK: You like the music?

ISABELLA: Very much.

JACK: Good, I'm glad.

ISABELLA: I'm glad you're here.

JACK: I can't stay long.

ISABELLA: Okay.

JACK: So....ah....how are you doing?

ISABELLA: Fine.

JACK: Are you sure?

ISABELLA: Jack, why are you so serious? What's wrong?

JACK: There's something I have to tell you.

ISABELLA: What?

JACK: It's not good.

ISABELLA: It's about my sister.

JACK: There's no easy way to say this. Ah....your sister's dead.

ISABELLA: No....

JACK: I'm sorry I had to be the one to tell you that.

ISABELLA: What?

JACK: She....actually she was murdered. Somebody killed her. I'm sorry.

ISABELLA: Do....do they know who did it?

JACK: Ah....no. They don't have a clue.

ISABELLA: I can't believe this. Marina.

JACK: Ah....look. I'm a little confused. Actually I didn't think the two of you were very close.

ISABELLA: Well that doesn't mean I wanted her dead.

JACK: Well I know that. I just....well of course you didn't want her dead. I know that.

ISABELLA: Jack, you've got to get me out of here.

JACK: What?

ISABELLA: Will you help me get out of here, please?

SCENE FOUR: JACK LEAVES ISABELLA'S AND IS COMING OUT THE MAIN ENTRANCE WHEN JENNIFER CREEPS UP BEHIND HIM.

JENNIFER: Jack.

THEY BOTH SCREAM IN FRIGHT AND HE PUTS HIS HAND OVER HER MOUTH.

JACK: What are you doing here?

JENNIFER: I followed you here.

JACK: You followed me?

JENNIFER: I've been waiting for you to come out.

JACK: All this time. You could have frozen to death.

JENNIFER: I'm fine, alright. What are you doing here?

JACK: Me? I'm a.....'m a....I was doing an investigation. Yeah, that's it.

JACK BEGINS TO WALK AWAY AND JENNIFER LEAPS ONTO HIS BACK TRYING TO STOP HIM.
Ep091E

JENNIFER: No Jack!

JACK: Jennifer.

JENNIFER: You're not going to get away with that Jack.

JACK: Alright, give me a minute and I'll give you another.

JENNIFER: You know what I think?

JACK: What, is that your investigative little nose speaking?

JENNIFER: Whatever is going on in that sanitarium has something to do with Marina Toscano, doesn't it?

JACK: What do you mean it has something to do with Marina Toscano?
Ep091F
JENNIFER:
Well it has nothing to do with investigating a story Jack.

JACK: Alright you got me. You caught me with my pants down.

JENNIFER: I knew it. It's Marina, isn't it?

JACK: Wrong!

JENNIFER: Then what?

JACK: It's Harper, it's my father.

HE TURNS AWAY FROM HER AND FAKES SOBBING, INCLUDING HEAVING HIS SHOULDERS UP AND DOWN.

JENNIFER: Oh Jack. Don't even give me that one. Your father is in jail.

JACK: I know but we're going to appeal his case. He's pleading insanity.

JENNIFER: Oh, when?

JACK: Ah....soon.

JENNIFER: Approximately when Jack?

JACK: I don't know. I don't know, alright. I'm not his lawyer.

JENNIFER: Okay, alright, fine. I will drop this whole thing but I'm not buying anything you just said.

JACK: I'm not asking you to buy anything and I'm not going to stand out here and freeze my....I'm not going to freeze waiting for you to get convinced this has nothing to do with Marina Toscano. You got that? Good.

JACK WALKS AWAY AND JENNIFER WATCHES HIM GO WITH A LOOK OF DISDAIN.

JENNIFER: Yeah, I got it Jack.
